וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם רַב־שָׁקֵ֗ה הַעַ֨ל אֲדֹנֶ֤יךָ וְאֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ שְׁלָחַ֣נִי אֲדֹנִ֔י לְדַבֵּ֖ר אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה הֲלֹ֣א עַל־הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ עַל־הַ֣חֹמָ֔ה לֶאֱכֹ֣ל אֶת חריהם [צוֹאָתָ֗ם] וְלִשְׁתּ֛וֹת אֶת־שיניהם [מימֵ֥י] [רַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם] עִמָּכֶֽם׃
Aber Rab-Shakeh sprach zu ihnen: 'Hat mein Meister mich zu deinem Meister und zu dir gesandt, um diese Worte zu sprechen? Hat er mich nicht zu den Männern geschickt, die an der Wand sitzen, um ihren eigenen Mist zu essen und ihr eigenes Wasser mit dir zu trinken?'
